Aistrop's first movel, being the story of: Corporal Blackie, who meets Eileen (a red-haired stripper); her husband (Norman) who, after only a few weeks of marriage, is sent to Africa where he loses both hands, wins the Military Medal, then falls in love with his nurse; Gerry, who doesn't find Blackie glamorous enough to suit her needs; and John, "who was lonely, but who could not face what the company psychiatrist discovered about him." The hardcover edition of this title is quite common, but this paperback edition is much less so. Aistrop won the Tom-Gallon Award in 1945 for his short story, "Death in the Midst of What." 126 pages. Mild slant, gentle vertical fold to front cover, edgewear, separation at bottom spine edges, crosscracks, top left corner of back cover torn off (3/4" or so along top and left edge), a turned corner.
